May 2019: Holy Smokes!
June 1st marks the beginning of hurricane season. North Carolina continues to recover from storms that have devastated our coast and lowland areas over the past few years. In order to support our sisters and brothers in these communities, we are hosting a BBQ Fundraiser on June 1st. Chopped BBQ will be available for purchase at $15 per container (1 lb each). Pick up will be at All Saints' UMC on Saturday, June 1 from 4:30-6:30pm. Pre-order your BBQ here. Sign up to volunteer here.
Our monthly mission is Taco Night at Urban Ministries of Durham on Tuesday, March 19. Volunteers are needed to help prepare the meal and volunteers are needed to help serve the meal. Grocery items for the meal are also needed. Sign up here to participate in Taco Night and for more information.
Our monthly mission is “Yanko” (Answer), ZOE Empowerment Group in Malawi Africa: 35 households headed by orphaned or vulnerable children aged 14-21 & their younger siblings. We are helping them move beyond poverty to be self-supporting through a Bethesda Endowment grant last year and individual donations. Funds for years 2-3 of the 3 year program are to be raised by the church.
WAYS YOU CAN BE INVOLVED
Learn more about ZOE’s holistic approach at their website. ZOE is a nonprofit ministry birthed out of the NC Conference of the United Methodist Church in 2007, headquartered in Garner, NC. Watch videos on-line to hear more about ZOE and the children ZOE helps.
Read about the Yanko group of children, their names & ages, their circumstances & how ZOE helps them to become self-sufficient within the communities where they live. Here’s the latest report from ZOE. Pray for the children.
Give financially to help ASUMC meet our partnership commitment. (Checks payable to ASUMC, with ZOE in the memo line.)
Bethesda UMC Endowment
Thanks to the merger with Bethesda UMC we now have an Endowment Fund with annual earnings to give away to qualified uses. The use of the funds according to the Bethesda Endowment mandate is “for outreach ministries in the local church, community, and beyond the local community that extend beyond the annual operating budget and enable the church to extend its ministry of caring and serving.” Further interpretation of that mandate sets forth that these endowment funds are to be used as seed money for a new, emerging or enhanced/renewed mission/outreach within or beyond All Saints’ UMC. In allocating these funds, emphasis will be given to mission/outreach that extends beyond current mission projects. These endowment funds are not to take the place of annual budget funds for mission.
An Endowment Committee of 4 church members has been established to oversee the administration of these funds and to make a recommendation to the Church Council as to disbursement of these funds. Contact the Church Office for more information. (Grant application here).
