Hurricane Florence Response: Financial contributions may be made to UMCOR at our online giving page. On Tuesday, October 9 Trali Irish Restaurant and Pub is hosting a fundraiser for UMCOR where a portion of the proceeds from that night (5-10pm) will go to UMCOR. We will also collect Cleaning Kits and Hygiene Kits. Workteams will be announced soon.
September Monthly Mission: Taco Night at Durham Urban Ministries This month's mission focus has us returning to Urban Ministries of Durham for Taco Night. We will provide the groceries, prepare and serve the evening meal of tacos and the trimmings on Tuesday, September 18. Sign up to supply grocery items needed and to volunteer to prepare or serve the meal here. Non-refrigerated grocery items may be brought to the Ministry Center by Monday, September 17. For refrigerated items, please contact Trent Shelton. Preparation volunteers are asked to be at Urban Ministries of Durham (410 Liberty St, Durham) at 5:30pm. Meal servers are asked to be there at 6:30pm. If you have any questions, contact Trent Shelton.
August Monthly Mission: InterFaith Food Shuttle The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle has opened a new warehouse at 2436 S Miami Blvd. This warehouse will serve as the center of operations for the BackPack Buddies and School Pantry programs. Our monthly mission for August in welcoming them to the neighborhood and getting to know the work they do was collection of healthy non-perishable food items (about 300 pounds worth) and volunteering at the warehouse sorting food and preparing bags for BackPack Buddies (20 volunteers with about 2700 pounds of food sorted).
May Monthly Mission: Book Drive! Children who don't read or don't have access to books during summer months experience something called the "Summer Slide," which means they lose two months of reading skills and need six weeks of re-teaching once the new school year begins. In order to address this challenge, All Saints' is partnering with local elementary school, Spring Valley, to collect books that will be distributed to students before they head out for summer vacation. Our goal is to collect 300 books, either purchased new or gently used. You can purchase books directly from the Spring Valley Media Center Wish List, or bring books to the All Saints' vestibule during the month of May. We will hang book cut-outs throughout the vestibule to represent each book collected, so please let us know if you purchase directly through the wish list! Thank you for helping to grow young readers in our community!
April 2018 Monthly Mission: In April, our church family engaged in mission by beautifying our property, including our church grounds and indoor spaces. Our prayer is that this work makes our grounds even more inviting for those who are being gathered into communion here. Thanks to all those who participated!
March 2018: In March we returned to Urban Ministries of Durham for Taco Night, where we served nearly 300 tacos and shared conversation with unsheltered and food insecure neighbors in Durham. Thanks to all who donated food and helped to serve!
Our monthly mission was to serve a comfort food meal of meatloaf, creamed potatoes, green beans and rolls at Open Table Ministry. Housed in downtown Durham's Trinity UMC, this ministry is a vital part of seeking to provide assistance to and relationship with those experiencing homelessness. We served lunch to over 125 folks on Monday, February 19. An ongoing way to support Open Table Ministry is by contributing funds or items needed (primarily men's jeans, coats, boots and new underwear and socks) for those they serve in their Free Store.
Our monthly mission for January was to serve with the Durham branch of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. Each year, the Durham Food Bank distributes over 9 million pounds of food to people at risk of hunger across 6 nearby counties. They distribute the food they collect and sort to individuals in need with the help of partner agencies such as soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters and other programs sponsoring at risk children & seniors. The Food Bank is highly dependent on the volunteers and contributions of individuals in the local community to obtain, sort and package food for distribution. We served in 4 different ways with a kids day of food sorting, an adult and youth day of food sorting, a food drive and monetary donations. There were over 3 bins of food collected and more than $460 contributed to the Food Bank.

Bethesda UMC Endowment
Thanks to the merger with Bethesda UMC we now have an Endowment Fund with annual earnings to give away to qualified uses. The use of the funds according to the Bethesda Endowment mandate is “for outreach ministries in the local church, community, and beyond the local community that extend beyond the annual operating budget and enable the church to extend its ministry of caring and serving.” Further interpretation of that mandate sets forth that these endowment funds are to be used as seed money for a new, emerging or enhanced/renewed mission/outreach within or beyond All Saints’ UMC. In allocating these funds, emphasis will be given to mission/outreach that extends beyond current mission projects. These endowment funds are not to take the place of annual budget funds for mission.
An Endowment Committee of 5 church members has been established to oversee the administration of these funds and to make a recommendation to the Church Council as to disbursement of these funds. Contact the Church Office for more information. (Grant application here).
